Apple released the first iPod on October 23, 2001. Today, the company marks the device's 25th anniversary with a hidden feature on its streaming platform.

The easter egg was spotted by a user named Kian on X. It replaces the standard error message on music.apple.com with a working replica of the original hardware. Visitors can trigger the page by typing music.apple.com/ipod or by entering any nonexistent path into the address bar.

The digital device mimics the physical controls of the 2001 player. Users can click buttons to navigate through a pre-installed playlist. The scroll wheel also responds to click and drag actions, replicating the motion of turning the physical wheel.

The playlist includes songs by artists who were popular at the time of the product launch. Selecting a track plays a 90-second preview directly in the web browser. No separate application or download is required to hear the audio.

The iPod hardware is no longer sold, but this web tribute allows fans to revisit the device's design. The page serves as a lighthearted nod rather than a product announcement. Apple has not indicated any plans to release new hardware for the anniversary.

For subscribers who prefer streaming over the digital replica, Apple Music costs $11.99 per month. The service is also available as part of the Apple One bundle.
