The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history. They finished off the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win at Tropicana Field, taking the series 4-1.

Milwaukee produced its offense steadily through the first six innings, scoring once in the second, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. Ace Jacob Misiorowski left after 5⅔ innings having allowed two hits and no runs. The bullpen covered the rest of the game, giving up one run and closing out the Rays in front of a large group of traveling Brewers fans.

The title capped a historic season. Milwaukee won a franchise-record 103 regular-season games. According to ESPN Research, the Brewers are now the third team in MLB history to earn their first 100-win season and their first World Series title in the same year, joining the 1910 Athletics and the 1969 New York Mets.

Reaction poured in from across Wisconsin and the baseball world. Former Brewer CC Sabathia wrote: "World Series Champions for the first time ever!! Soak it all in Milwaukee!!!" In a second post, he added: "Bob Uecker smiling down."

Wisconsin native J.J. Watt also celebrated, posting that the Brewers were World Series champions and adding "LET'S GOOOOOO!" Other teams from the state joined in. The Green Bay Packers wrote "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER," and the Milwaukee Bucks congratulated the club. Wisconsin's basketball and football programs each sent short messages of support, and Marquette University marked the first championship in the team's history.

Former major leaguers weighed in as well. Adam Wainwright called it "one of the most dominant World Series wins" and said it was "truly one of the best teams I've seen." He praised a lineup that "seemingly had 3 guys on every inning," starters who "stacked up zero after zero" and a bullpen that was "absolutely stifling." Joey Votto offered a brief "Congrats, Cream City!"

Companies and other teams got involved too. Nike wrote, "How refreshing. A 57-year thirst has been quenched." The Colorado Rockies noted that someone they called "Senza" had won a WBC championship and a World Series title in the same year.

Culver's Restaurants, a Wisconsin-based chain, thanked the Brewers for what it called an incredible run and saluted the Rays for a hard-fought series. "Baseball is just better with a little Wisconsin flavor," the company wrote.
