Google is distributing a redesign of the Gemini app for Android through a server-side update. The change alters the navigation drawer and merges previously separate settings menus into a single page. Because the rollout is server-based, users receive the new interface without downloading a new version of the app from the Play Store.

The primary functional change limits the number of recent chats visible in the side panel to five. New chat remains the first entry, followed by the Library option. Previously, the Library feature was located near the bottom of the drawer. A 'More' button now allows users to expand the list and access older conversations. For subscribers to the AI Ultra tier, the full expanded list includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.

The search function has moved to the top-right corner of the interface. Google states the goal is to prevent the navigation drawer from becoming crowded while still providing access to recent interactions. The visual hierarchy places the most frequently used tools at the top of the list.

Settings have been consolidated onto one page. Previously, user preferences were split between the account menu and a distinct 'Gemini Settings' area. The account menu now handles only account switching, feedback, and help requests. The new unified Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new in this section.

Two additional sections complete the settings page. Data & privacy includes options for Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The Get support section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates. This structure mirrors the interface changes released for iOS, macOS, and the web app last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon.

The Android rollout follows recent updates to the Gemini ecosystem. Gemini Notebook is now available as a Connected App for deeper integration. Free users are shifting to 'Auto' models as the app adds thinking levels. A new 'Map' tool has also arrived, replacing the '/' shortcut with an '@' symbol in the input field.
