Longtime Portland shoppers will find a familiar snack shop at a new address. Joe Brown's Carmel Corn opens its Washington Square mall location Friday, Oct. 30.
The store moves to the second floor food court at 9585 S.W. Washington Square Road. It begins operations at 10 a.m. with a grand opening event.
The shop has served the Lloyd Center district for more than 60 years. The Lloyd Center permanently shut its doors on Aug. 8. Joe Brown's was the last remaining tenant at the northeast Portland mall.
The business traces its roots to 1932. By the mid-1930s, it operated three Portland locations. World War II halted operations in the 1940s, but the company returned in 1960.
The new Washington County site will sell Carmel corn, cheddar cheese, white cheddar, and kettle corn. It also offers Oregon-style popcorn, a mix of caramel and yellow cheese flavors. The menu includes cookies, banana pudding, cheesecake, and caramel apples.
The company said it has created sweet memories for generations of Portland families since 1932. The release noted excitement about continuing that tradition at the new home.
