Latvia's National Armed Forces recovered drone wreckage in the Alūksne district on Saturday, October 24. The military announced the discovery, which marks the end of a search that began after the aircraft entered national airspace.

Authorities determined the unmanned aerial vehicle likely crossed into Latvian airspace on October 18. The incident initially drew attention after residents reported a noise resembling an explosion. The National Armed Forces and State Police launched a search for a crash site but paused efforts after two days. Officials cited insufficient information at that time to determine the cause of the event.

The military confirmed that no civilians were injured during the incident. Civilian infrastructure remained undamaged. Officials stated that no further threats have been identified. An investigation into the circumstances is currently underway. An internal review has also started to assess how the event unfolded.

The finding follows a similar occurrence in neighboring Lithuania. On October 18, the same day the Latvian drone was detected, Lithuanian authorities found wreckage in the village of Juodžionys in the Pasvalys district. Lithuania reported that the drone entered its airspace from Poland. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius stated that the Lithuanian drone contained explosives.

Heorhii Tykhyi, the spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the Lithuanian incident. He suggested it was likely the result of Russian electronic warfare measures. Ukraine expressed regret over the event.
