Pueblo residents experienced a final stretch of warmth on Friday, October 23, as a cold front crossed Colorado. The city’s high reached 80 degrees, marking the peak before a sharp decline in temperatures across the region.
The weather pattern brings three key changes to the immediate forecast. First, temperatures will drop by approximately 30 degrees, with Saturday’s high falling to the 50s. Second, rain chances will rise, shifting from a 10% to 20% probability on the south side of Pueblo on Friday to more substantial amounts over the weekend. Third, cloud cover will increase as the front advances from the west, potentially generating storms farther east along Interstate 25.
Morning conditions started with temperatures in the 50s and breaking clouds. Sunshine emerged around 10 a.m. along the interstate, allowing for afternoon warming. However, the advancing front introduced additional cloud cover. While most locations remained dry, a few thunderstorms were possible along the southern portion of the interstate. Colorado Springs saw a high of 73 degrees and a low of 47.
Surrounding communities followed a similar trajectory. Canon City recorded a high of 75 degrees and a low of 49, with a 20% to 30% chance of afternoon showers. Woodland Park forecasted a high of 58 degrees and a low of 39. The Monument and Tri-Lakes area reached 69 degrees, while Walsenburg and Trinidad hit 73 and 74 degrees, respectively. For Walsenburg and Trinidad, Friday represented the warmest day in the next seven days before weekend highs dropped into the 50s.
The eastern plains saw afternoon temperatures in the 70s and 80s before thunderstorms returned by evening. Mountain areas recorded highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Southwestern Colorado continued to face lingering moisture and flooding concerns, with water levels expected to take time to recede. The system brought a distinct shift from the previous week's warmth.
The outlook for the following week indicates calmer conditions. Sunshine and partly cloudy skies are expected, with temperatures gradually warming into the 60s. The preliminary Halloween forecast lists temperatures in the 50s and 60s with dry weather, though meteorologists noted the forecast could change.
