Downtown Corpus Christi will close 10 blocks for a free street festival Saturday while other weekend events around the Coastal Bend carry prices ranging from nothing to $20 for a weekend pass.
The Día de los Muertos Street Festival enters its 19th year and runs from 1 p.m. to midnight. Organizers have programmed live music, art, food and cultural performances across the closed blocks, plus a community ofrenda where families can honor relatives who have died. The holiday centers on remembering those loved ones and marking the lives they lived.
Paid entry applies elsewhere. The Villain Invasion Halloween Fest runs Saturday and Sunday at the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina, with weekend passes starting at $20 and admission free for children 12 and under. The event features horror movie actors, costume contests and gaming tournaments. Visitors who bring two nonperishable food items for the Coastal Bend Food Bank receive a special-edition event poster while supplies last. The Monster Mash Cupcake Dash at Water's Edge Park charges entry for its 5K, 10K or 2-mile walk Saturday morning, and every finisher receives a cupcake. Proceeds support Family Counseling Services, which provides mental health care across the Coastal Bend.
Free options include family pumpkin painting at Asbury Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, where families can buy a pumpkin and decorate it together; the church's pumpkin patch stays open through Halloween. Hocus Pocus Corpus debuts Saturday at the Hilliard Center from noon to 3 p.m., offering trick-or-treating, door prizes, a community resource fair and a presentation on renters' rights.
