BYD's new flagship electric sedan will debut in the United Arab Emirates rather than in China.

The car is expected to launch this month with a starting price of 2 million yuan, or roughly $300,000. This price point is more than double the cost of the brand's current most expensive mass-produced model.

BYD has expanded its vehicle lineup over the past several years. The company now sells entry-level electric cars, pickup trucks, and high-end supercars. It operates three sub-brands, Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang, in addition to its main Dynasty and Ocean lines. Yangwang serves as the top tier of this structure and showcases the company's newest technical features.

Earlier Yangwang models used the quad-motor e4 platform, which produces 1,300 horsepower. Those vehicles also featured the DiSus-X body control system, allowing them to perform stunts like jumping and driving on three wheels. The new sedan continues this trend of integrating advanced technology into luxury vehicles.

Images of the car released last month showed it undergoing testing in camouflage. The vehicle appears to match the size and shape of a Rolls-Royce Phantom or Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Local reports indicate the sedan measures approximately 5,500 mm, or 216 inches, in length. Zheng Yu, Yangwang's executive general manager, stated the car will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology" but did not provide specific details.

The sedan was spotted at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting it will support megawatt flash charging. It also includes rear-hinged coach doors, a design feature new to the company. Reports indicate this model will be the first to use BYD's solid-state batteries. Executive vice president Stella Li told Carwow.es last month that the first vehicle with a solid-state battery would debut in 2027.

The new sedan sits above the current Yangwang lineup. The U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The brand also sells the U8 and U8L plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs and the U9 electric super-coupe. The extended U8L is currently the highest-priced mass-produced vehicle in the brand, starting at 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
