Flooding continues to affect parts of central Florida.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for portions of Brevard and Indian River counties on November 2. The warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Rainfall in the warned area has reached between 16 and 22 inches. Another 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible in the next few hours.
Flood watches for Brevard and Volusia counties were extended until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Officials expect Tuesday's rains to be less intense than Monday's. Authorities warn that rivers and streams may overflow due to the heavy precipitation. Low-lying areas with poor drainage are at high risk of flooding. Conditions in other central Florida counties are expected to improve, though isolated showers are possible during the day.
Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for seven counties, including Brevard. The governor signed Executive Order 26-227 on November 2 to expedite resources and assistance to affected communities. The Florida Division of Emergency Management is working with local partners to support residents in their recovery efforts.
The Brevard County School District canceled all classes through Tuesday. Schools are expected to reopen on Wednesday.
The flood warning for Brevard and Indian River counties remains active until 9:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on November 2.
