Judith Vega’s home in Palm Bay, Florida, sustained severe damage this week after floodwaters swept through the neighborhood.
Vega, who has resided at the property for three decades, escaped just before the water breached the interior. She described the force of the rain as heavy and strong, noting that items on the floor began to float inside the structure.
Her daughter, Julie Angulo, said the family is struggling to process the loss. Angulo stated that her mother worked hard to provide the home and that it now feels gone. She added that it is difficult for her mother to see anything else right now.
Angulo observed that all of her mother’s belongings are currently out on the street. She called the items trinkets and pictures and declared that nothing is salvageable.
Days after the flood, the floors remain wet. Fans are running to dry the space, and water still pools in the back of Vega’s car.
Other families in Palm Bay and Brevard County are experiencing similar conditions. Local veterinarians have offered to board family pets while the group cleans up. The county is working to connect homeowners with organizations that assist with the cleanup process.
Neighbors have helped one another during the recovery effort. Despite the losses, the family expressed appreciation for what they still have.
