The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night to capture the World Series title. The victory marks the franchise's first championship in 58 seasons and resolves a rivalry between the two lowest-ranked payrolls in Major League Baseball.

Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits before leaving the game due to a calf cramp. Rookie Cooper Pratt recorded two hits and two runs batted in. The Brewers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the second and sixth innings.

Christian Yelich, the team captain, noted that the city had waited a long time for this achievement. William Contreras, named the World Series MVP, hit an RBI double in the sixth inning. Jackson Chourio set a five-game Series record with 11 hits. Pratt set a rookie record with six consecutive hits before his sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Manager Pat Murphy, who survived a heart attack in 2020, led the team to its 103rd regular-season win. The squad finished the postseason with an 11-2 record, including a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. The team relied on small-ball tactics, with only three home runs hit across the entire series.

The Rays, an expansion team that debuted in 1998, fell to 0-3 in World Series history. They joined the Brooklyn Dodgers and Detroit Tigers as the only clubs to lose their first three Series appearances. Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash described his team as banged up but grateful for their effort.

Owners are currently pushing for a salary cap, arguing that small-market teams struggle to succeed without it. A management lockout is expected to begin on December 2. This championship comes during a period of uncertainty for the labor landscape in the league.

Mark Attanasio, the Brewers owner, told fans on the field that Milwaukee finally has its world championship. The team had lost a 3-1 lead in Game 7 of the 1982 World Series. This win ends that 44-year wait for a title in the city.
