Three 3A KingCo football teams will compete in a special tiebreaker game on Monday, October 27, to settle division standings. Liberty, Inglemoor, and Mercer Island are all 5-1 in league play after the Patriots lost 10-3 to Inglemoor on Friday, October 24. The event will be held at Issaquah High School.
The format modifies standard football rules. Teams play two 12-minute quarters. The winner advances immediately. The loser takes a 20-minute intermission before facing the third team. If the score remains tied after 24 minutes of total play, the game moves to standard high school overtime. Possession alternates at the 25-yard line.
Mercer Island faces Liberty in the first matchup at 7:00 p.m. These teams were selected to play first based on a number drawn at the start of the season. Mercer Island drew number 3, while Liberty drew number 6. The winner of this opening contest secures a playoff spot and will face Bellevue in the Week 9 KingCo championship.
The loser of the Mercer Island and Liberty game plays Inglemoor in a final contest. This second game is a win-or-go-home scenario for the two remaining teams. The winner advances to the postseason. The loser is eliminated from playoff contention for the KingCo Crest division.
