Trump touts Hinson's fitness in Iowa while Kansas Senate race turns competitive

President Donald Trump campaigned in Iowa and Kansas over the weekend.

Roughly 50 million Americans cast ballots before the election. Both states have historically favored Republicans, but current data indicates they have become competitive. Democrats need to net four seats to regain control of the Senate. Winning Iowa and Kansas is essential for that goal.

In Kansas, the state has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in nearly 100 years. New York Times polling places Democrat Adam Hamilton ahead of Republican incumbent Roger Marshall by five points. Marshall released a closing argument video on Sunday. The video addressed criticism regarding his medical practices. According to the source, Marshall’s staff did not want the video released and feared it could hurt his campaign.

In Iowa, the race is close. Trump spoke about his running mate, Ashley Hinson. He mentioned that he knew her for a long time and noted she was previously a bit heavier. Trump said Hinson understood the importance of the role and followed a regimen to get in shape. He claimed she asked him not to bring up the topic.

The New York Times poll is the only specific data point provided for the Kansas margin. No other polling figures are cited for either state. The outcome will determine if the historic streak in Kansas ends and will influence the overall balance of power in the Senate.
