Apple TV's upcoming series "Ascension," from filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón, has filled out its ensemble with three new series regulars. Variety has learned that Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung and T'Nia Miller have joined the cast. Details about the characters they will play are being kept under wraps.
Plummer is known for "Run" and "Butterfly Kiss." Chung's credits include "Slow Horses" and "My Brilliant Career," while Miller has appeared in "The Haunting of Bly Manor" and "VisionQuest."
The newcomers join a cast led by Caitríona Balfe, as previously reported. Bill Nighy was also recently announced as a star of the show.
The series draws its inspiration from "Last Days," a novel by Adam Nevill. Balfe plays Rose, described in the logline as "a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, brilliant at uncovering others' truths but struggling to resolve her own."
The story begins when Rose starts work on a project about a mysterious 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension. According to the logline, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings, until she discovers something far more insidious beneath.
Behind the camera, Alfonso Cuarón is co-writing the series with his brother Carlos Cuarón, along with Natalie Erika James and Christian White. James and White previously worked together on "Apartment 7A" and "Relic." All four are executive producers.
James and White also serve as co-showrunners, and James is the lead director. Balfe will executive produce in addition to starring in the series.
Alfonso Cuarón executive produces through his Esperanto Filmoj banner, which holds an overall television deal with Apple. Gabriela Rodriguez and Richard Schwartz will also executive produce for Esperanto Filmoj.
Steve Golin, David Levine and Zack Hayden are executive producers for Anonymous Content. Anonymous will produce the show, and Apple Studios is serving as the studio.
