Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine does not have time for quiet signals in its dealings with the United States. The president spoke to reporters during a briefing on Tuesday, explaining that the current military situation dictates a direct approach to diplomacy.

Zelenskyy addressed comments made by US President Donald Trump regarding the need to hold elections in Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader described his reaction to these remarks as calm. He noted that freedom of speech exists in both nations. "President Trump can say whatever he wants about me personally, but not about Ukraine," Zelenskyy said. He added that when comments concern Ukraine specifically, he responds due to his responsibility to defend the country.

Journalists asked if European counterparts had urged Zelenskyy to soften his rhetoric toward the US. The president explained that cautious speech takes a long time to produce results. He said that approach works only if a nation has sufficient time and resources, such as a large stockpile of anti-ballistic missiles. He contrasted this with the current reality of constant attacks during the day and a shortage of defensive systems.

"You simply don't have time for quiet signals," Zelenskyy said. He explained that the goal is to ensure problems are noticed, addressed, and resolved. He stated that he chooses to speak directly and frankly because it is the only approach available under the current conditions. The president emphasized that living from one night to the next requires immediate attention to critical issues.

Zelenskyy also characterized his relationship with Trump as good and constructive. He said he has held excellent meetings with the US president and his team. However, he argued that constructive dialogue does not mean ignoring destructive actions. "And I say this openly," he added.

The briefing took place against the backdrop of ongoing military operations. Zelenskyy linked his communication style directly to the physical constraints facing the country, including diesel supply issues and missile shortages. He maintained that his directness is a functional response to the speed and intensity of the conflict rather than a personal choice.
