Arsenal and Manchester City share first place in the Premier League with 21 points each after eight games. The tie resulted from Saturday's matchday, in which Arsenal defeated Everton and City fell to Aston Villa.

Arsenal opened scoring in the seventh minute at the Emirates Stadium. Martin Odegaard's corner caused chaos in the Everton box. Jordan Pickford saved the initial effort, but Ezri Konsa pounced on the loose ball and shot it in from one yard. It marked Arsenal's first set-piece goal in 13 matches.

Konsa noted the team's home dominance. "We are champions and to be champions you've got to win games consistently," he said. "This is our home, and we want to win as many games here as possible."

The second goal arrived in the 68th minute. Ben White crossed to the far post for Gabriel, who headed the ball into the net. Both players were reaching personal milestones, with White playing his 200th game for Arsenal and Gabriel appearing in his 200th Premier League match. Everton dropped to ninth place.

At Villa Park, Manchester City suffered its first league defeat of the season. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Aston Villa in a 2-1 win. Erling Haaland briefly equalized with a header, but Jackson finished a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye in the 60th minute to seal the result. Villa moved to sixth place with 11 points.

City remains under scrutiny for an off-field financial case. An independent commission found 114 breaches of financial rules, a finding the club denies. Jackson told TNT Sports, "It's just the beginning; we're trying to work game by game."

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute after Cole Palmer received his second yellow card in the 80th minute. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first league start, punched a corner into his own net in the 77th minute. Fulham also won, beating Coventry City 1-0 through an 80th-minute goal from Oscar Bobb.
