The Minnesota Class 6A football regular season concluded on Friday night, with the Roseville Raiders claiming the Metro Maroon subdistrict title. The Raiders defeated Coon Rapids 24-14 in a decisive contest that capped a strong finish for the program. This victory allowed the team to finish the campaign with a 4-4 record, marking their best performance since 2017. The win solidifies their position as a top contender moving forward in the postseason.
Senior quarterback Chase Browning was the key architect of the offensive effort. He accumulated 162 passing yards and threw for three touchdowns. Browning expressed his pride in the team's collective effort. He stated that it is an amazing feeling to see their hard work finally pay off. He noted that the group has worked so hard all season, and the result validates that dedication. The emotional release from the players was evident in their postgame reactions.
Other significant results shaped the playoff landscape across the region. Centennial defeated Anoka 38-6, a performance that likely secures the Cougars a No. 3 seed. This outcome positions them as a credible threat for a deep run into November. Notably, Anoka was held to just six points, which was the first time this season they were kept in single digits. Meanwhile, Mounds View edged out White Bear Lake 22-16 to take sole possession of the Metro East subdistrict title.
The game between Mounds View and White Bear Lake featured a late surge by the Mustangs. Trailing by two points, quarterback Tanner Jude scored on a one-yard run with 65 seconds remaining. A successful two-point conversion extended the lead to six points. Preston Johnson sealed the victory by intercepting a pass on the Bears' next possession. The Mounds View defense limited White Bear Lake quarterback Wyatt Stachowiak to just six completions on 24 attempts, a key factor in the narrow win.
Individual performances also defined the final day of play. East Ridge closed a difficult season with a 42-31 victory over rival Woodbury. Logan Tretter rushed for two touchdowns, and Elias Mather returned an interception for a late score to put the game away. Forest Lake running back Mack Jurkovich posted the night's top individual stats. He rushed for 245 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-13 win over Stillwater. This result locks up a No. 2 seed for the Rangers, and Jurkovich ended the season with 1,600 rushing yards.
Other standout athletes included Park junior receiver Manny Vargas. He scored twice in the Wolfpack's 18-10 win over Eastview, catching a touchdown pass and returning a punt 75 yards for a score. The most dramatic finish of the night occurred in the south metro. Lakeville South kicker Dylan Nelson made a 36-yard field goal with one second remaining. This play gave the Cougars a 17-14 upset of Rosemount. The surprising result complicates the seeding picture for the south metro teams heading into the Class 6A playoffs.
