Adam Driver has closed the door on his future as Kylo Ren. The actor told The Rich Eisen Show that he is finished with the Star Wars franchise and does not expect to return to the role.

Driver explained that he and director Steven Soderbergh spent several years developing a standalone movie centered on the character. The team included writers Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt. They completed a script that Driver described as really good. Lucasfilm executives supported the concept and understood the angle the creators wanted to take.

The project stalled when Driver and Soderbergh presented the script to Disney studio executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman. The studio leaders rejected the film because they did not believe Ben Solo was alive. Driver noted that the studio said no and the deal was over.

The actor said the process was earnest and collaborative. He worked with Soderbergh, Burns, and Blunt for years to refine the material. Driver stated that he did not get to make the final decision on the project. He added that if Disney wanted to resurrect the idea, he would be fine with it, but the initiative was no longer coming from him.

Driver acknowledged the strong reaction from fans after news of the dropped film emerged. He was surprised by the scale of the support. He mentioned billboards and fans flying planes with banners over the studio lot. Driver described the response as pretty incredible.

In April, Soderbergh echoed Driver's sentiment regarding the film's cancellation. The director said the movie would have happened if it was going to happen. Driver reiterated during the interview that the ship has sailed on the project for him.

The rejection of the script marks the end of Driver's involvement with the character. He said it is over and there will be no more Star Wars for him in that capacity. The decision rests with the studio executives who initially passed on the standalone feature.
