Drexel University paused all undergraduate student events involving alcohol on Tuesday evening.
The Philadelphia school, which enrolls nearly 12,500 undergraduates, also halted the induction of new members to student organizations. The administration said it takes the reports very seriously and is committed to a thorough review.
The suspension applies to all undergraduate activities, not just Greek organizations. This move follows the interim suspension of the Pi Kappa Phi and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternities earlier this week. Drexel is currently reviewing reports of potential sexual misconduct and hazing associated with those groups.
University officials stated that the safety and well-being of students are paramount. The school said it maintains a safe and respectful learning environment and does not tolerate hazing, sexual misconduct, or other behavior that threatens the community. The review is being conducted in coordination with the offices of Student Conduct, Civil Rights Compliance, and university police.
Drexel has not provided specific details about the ongoing investigations. The university noted that all reports are carefully reviewed and that appropriate action is taken in accordance with internal policies. Students can report information through an anonymous compliance hotline, the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, or the Student Conduct Office.
University police can be reached at 215-895-2222 for emergencies. Confidential counseling services are available by calling 215-895-1415 during business hours or 215-416-3337 after hours. Employees can also access support through the Employee Assistance Program.
