Milan will replace the San Siro with a 71,500-seat arena called the Generali Stadium.

Inter and AC Milan released the project details on Thursday, ending years of planning delays.

The Italian insurance company Generali purchased the naming rights in a contract valued at €650 million over 20 years.

The two clubs plan to begin construction in 2028.

They will not demolish the current stadium, built in 1926, until the new venue is ready for play.

This schedule ensures both teams can host matches at the historic ground until the 2031-2032 season.

The timing aligns with the UEFA 2032 Euro, which Italy and Turkey will co-host.

Foster + Partners and MANICA designed the structure.

Lord Norman Foster and David Manica previously worked on London's Wembley Stadium.

The design features an X-frame structure and a double-curved roof.

The seating bowl is continuous and 360 degrees around the pitch.

The Curvas at either end are steep walls of seats that slope toward the field at 37 degrees to amplify crowd noise and sightlines. The acoustic design aims to keep supporters central to the experience. The project includes premium hospitality areas and standard seating options. Inter and AC Milan will continue sharing a home stadium after this move, a tradition that began in the late 1940s when Inter joined AC Milan at San Siro. The Milan City Council approved the sale of the current stadium to the clubs in 2025. Ownership groups RedBird and Oaktree called the project a defining investment to strengthen sporting competitiveness and unlock future growth. The new venue is intended to increase matchday revenue for both clubs to match European rivals. The old San Siro has hosted events beyond football, including the 2026 Winter Olympic opening ceremony. It also hosted concerts by artists such as Bob Marley, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Taylor Swift, U2, and Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen has described the stadium as his second home.
