Megyn Kelly called on Republican leaders to stop relying on Donald Trump's personal brand for electoral success.
Kelly made the remarks on her podcast and YouTube show following the midterm elections held on Tuesday. She described the party as being in ruins and suggested the outcome might have been necessary. Kelly urged Republicans to reflect, rebuild, and reinvent themselves in the image of no man. She stated they must learn how to win without daddy on the ballot and find their ethical center.
The pundit argued the party should stop acting as puppets of Trump and allow their political world to revolve around other issues. Her comments were first reported by Mediaite.
Democrats secured sweeping victories in Tuesday's vote, taking back control of the U.S. House and the Senate. This outcome sets up major clashes with the White House during the president's final two years in office. The Democratic wave included Senate victories in long-held Republican strongholds such as Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina.
Trump sought to downplay the GOP losses by claiming the result would have differed if he were on the ballot. He expressed frustration that Republicans failed to transfer their support for him to down-ballot candidates. Other potential GOP successors, including Vice President Vance and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, also blamed the Iran war for the results. DeSantis labeled the vote an extinction-level event for Republicans.
Kelly has been sharply critical of Trump in recent months over the Iran war and its impact on the U.S. economy. Analysts identified the economic fallout from that conflict as a major factor in Tuesday's midterm rout.
